The Hammer high school in Bat Yam has been developing and implementing a new program that will provide the students at the end of their studies a "social" diploma along with their scholastic one. To kick off this special project, 10th graders went on a "marathon day" filled with the spirit of giving and social values. They volunteered at "Merkaz Hesed" in Sderot, which provides food for needy families.

The children from the 10th grade volunteered to help prepare meals for needy families and heard a lecture about mutual responsibility and heroism. At the end of the day, they enjoyed a more physical challenge meant to help them understand the importance of trusting one another and overcoming difficulties. The children felt exhilarated and even received praise and honorary certificates for their participation.

The purpose of this day was to promote the value of giving and sharing responsibilities, as they are constantly dealing with these issues in real life. This was a great opening day for our new program, and hopefully, the more we can teach our schoolchildren about social values, the more they will become better and healthier adults.
