Hashayara is an educational-Zionist project that operates within the Morasha framework ("Kol Israel Haverim") and in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Education since 2003.
Every year, Israeli teachers who are on sabbatical travel to two Jewish schools in Europe to help promote Jewish education and ties with Israel. This year, nine teachers participated in the project. Six went on two missions and three went on one. All of them were in Europe and there were a total of fifteen trips across the Continent.
The second round started after Passover break, the same time as the volcano in Iceland erupted. After many delays, eight teachers were on their way to the Lauder Habad School in Vienna, the Habad Granovel School in France, the Alliance School in Nice, the Lauder School in Köln, the Lauder Moria School in Bucharest, the Hillel School in Stockholm and the Habad School in Geneva.
In accordance with the Jewish calendar, the teachers focused on events such as "Jerusalem Day," inspired by the educational perception of the various Morasha projects.
In addition to working at the schools, the teachers get involved in local community activities and broadened their knowledge regarding Jewish life outside of Israel. Akiva Azulay, a History teacher from northern Israel went on a one-month mission to the "Alliance" school in Niece. He interviewed for the local Jewish radio station and spoke about "Hashayara," "Kol Israel Haverim" and his own experience.
Nava Levy, our representative at Stockholm, told us: "I just came back from an exciting and moving event. They are celebrating the 60th anniversary of "Bnei Akiva" here in Sweden. Part of the festivities included "Bnei Akiva" delegations from all over Europe taking part in their own version of the Eurovision Song Contest. They were wonderful and so beautiful and talented, singing songs about Israel and the Jewish people. Hearing them sing was very emotional for me.”
